On Tuesday, July 22, 2025 another major event was held on the calendar of events of The International Year of Co-operatives 2025.
This event was a demonstration of the caring side of cooperators when a monetary donation was made to the Hugo Thompson Foundation, whose main philosophy is Caring and Sharing.
Hugo, who passed away in July in 2021 from Cancer was also a strong and supportive cooperator evidenced by his stewardship at South-east Farmers Co-operative Society Ltd.
The Foundation was created in his memory with the expressed purpose of:
1. Assisting persons stricken with Pancreatic Cancer whilst working with the Association of Palliative Care, and
2. Providing assistance to students of Princess Margaret Secondary School and other groups in the community
In the photo, Mr. Anthony Sealy of the IYC 2025 Committee is presenting Mrs. Sandra Thompson, widow of Hugo Thompson, with a monetary donation for the Foundation. Also in attendance is Mrs. Antonia Downes, the niece of Hugo Thompson, and Mr. Michael Arthur, a member of the IYC 2025 Committee.
