South Eastern Farmer's Co-operative Society Limited

The group started in 1991 under the guidance of the Agricultural teacher of the Princess Margaret Secondary School (Mr. Hugo Thompson). The extension officer of the Barbados Agricultural Development Corporation and the blessings of Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Anthony Wood). The Ministry of Housing and Lands agreed to lease a portion of the school’s land east of the public library to the Cooperative.


The group was registered as a Cooperative on Jan. 8th 1996


Objectives:

  • To promote the economic interest of its members, particularly to arrange for better marketing of their produce.

  • To arrange for the transport and sale of members’ produce to the best advantage.

  • To encourage improved methods of agriculture

  • To purchase trucks or other vehicles or animals and arranging for their housing and maintenance.

  • To make advances to members against the security of their produce

  • To supply seeds or other planting material of good quality, fertilizers and other farming inputs.

  • To encourage in members the spirit and practice of thrift, mutual help and self help.

  • To arrange by purchase, lease or otherwise, sites for any necessary buildings, or for the lease of such buildings and constructing such buildings and installing such plant as the better business of the society may require.


Alliances


The Hugo Thompson Foundation (launched 10th December 2022)

Founded as a response to the death of its founder member to cancer.


Objectives:

  • Assisting persons stricken with Pancreatic cancer through/together with the Association of Palliative Care

  • Assisting students of the Princess Margaret Secondary School who have excelled in Agricultural Science/Industrial Arts/ music/or a foreign Language.

  • Assisting the Concordia Ballroom Dance Club.

  • Generally helping those in need.


Membership:

Citizens 16 years and older.

Purchase of 100 shares ($5.00 per Share)
